Director of Security

Permanent, Full Time

Newcastle upon Tyne

Competitive Salary

Be part of something bigger – Protecting our people, places and reputation.

We are the heartbeat of the city — a club with bold ambitions on a global stage and deep roots in our community. As Newcastle United continues its journey towards becoming a world leading football club, the safety, security and resilience of our people, venues, assets and data have never been more important.

If you’re driven to raise the bar, thrive in complex environments and can lead with pace, precision and purpose, this role offers the opportunity to make a defining impact. You’ll shape our club wide security strategy, set direction, join the dots across departments, and ensure best in class protection for a high profile and rapidly evolving organisation.

About the role

As the Club’s strategic lead for security, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and assuring NUFC’s end-to-end security framework. This includes physical security, cyber security, intelligence led risk management, business continuity, and the protection of high profile individuals across multiple sites.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you’ll act as NUFC’s “controlling mind” for security — ensuring that our people, infrastructure, technology, partners and operations are protected and our standards consistently exceed expectations.

What you’ll do

You will:

*                 Lead and oversee day‑to‑day security across all NUFC venues, assets and people outside of major event operations.

*                 Produce, publish and maintain club‑wide security policies and protocols, ensuring a robust two‑layer internal protection model and overseeing third‑party assurance.

*                 Monitor and audit club‑wide security delivery during matchdays and whole‑stadium events, maintaining a clear command-and-control structure in partnership with the Head of Matchday Safety and Security and the Director of Venue Operations.

*                 Maintain accountability for all cyber protections across the Club, working closely with the Director of IT to ensure policy implementation, compliance and a strong audit framework.

*                 Ensure supply chain and partner compliance with NUFC cyber standards, particularly where data sharing and system access are required.

*                 Lead NUFC’s risk management process, including threat assessments, mitigation planning, business continuity and incident preparedness.

*                 Develop data, insight and reporting to inform the C‑Suite of threat levels, performance and forward planning.

*                 Maintain and continuously enhance security infrastructure and systems including CCTV, access control, technology, alarms, SOPs and cyber protocols.

About you

*                 Seasoned senior security leader with strategic impact in complex, high‑profile or high‑risk settings.

*                 Expert across physical security, cyber, risk and business continuity; calm, decisive and solutions‑focused in critical incidents.

*                 Strong technical depth (access control, surveillance, cybersecurity protocols) and a track record of building clear policies, SOPs and assurance.

*                 Proven people leader of multi‑site security and close‑protection teams; you set high standards and drive training, CPD and competency.

*                 Collaborative operator who joins the dots with Venue Ops and IT and works effectively with policing/governing bodies.

*                 Certified security training or equivalent; ideally CPP, CISM, CISSP/CRISC/CCISO, and NEBOSH.

The team

You’ll join a high‑performing senior leadership community who share the same goal: moving Newcastle United forward — together. You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across Venue Operations, IT, HR, Football Operations, and the wider C‑Suite during a period of high growth and evolving operational demands.

United As One

We’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and believe in equal opportunities for all. The diversity of our people is one of our greatest strengths. We work together to reflect the communities we serve and to maintain an inclusive environment where everyone can be their authentic self and achieve their full potential.

Safeguarding

We’re committed to providing a safe environment where everyone is valued, heard, and able to thrive. This role requires an enhanced criminal record check due to responsibilities relating to children and/or adults at risk. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and all staff are expected to complete regular training.
