Matchday Support Officer – Hearing Impaired Supporters

Newcastle Upon Tyne

Casual – all home match days

We are the heartbeat of the city. Bringing people and communities together, join the Newcastle United Family, as we embark on the next steps of our exciting journey.

Your day to day

We’re looking for someone to work all home matchdays and act as a main point of contact for Sela Sound Shirt users, resolving any queries that arise.

The Sela Sound Shirt is a ground breaking joint initiative with our principal partner Sela to create a lasting legacy for fans who are deaf or have hearing loss by making haptic shirt technology available at St. James' Park throughout the 2024/25 season.

A world-first initiative, the haptic shirts - created by Cute Circuit - were introduced through Sela's trailblazing “Unsilence the Crowd” campaign during Deaf Awareness Week 2024.

The shirts transform stadium noise into a real-time touch sensation, cutting-edge haptic technology enabled deaf fans to feel the famous St. James' Park atmosphere like never before.

Distributing the Sela Sound Shirts to hearing impaired supporters and offering assistance with any concerns during match days, the role is critical in enhancing the users overall match day experience.

About you

You will be the main point of contact on matchday for hearing impaired fans on matchday and manage the allocation and return of all “sound shirts” on match day. Ensuring that you are on hand for any queries or challenges to ensure a brilliant match day experience.

As such it is essential that you possess a Level 2 / 3 British Sign Language qualification and have experience working with deaf children and/or adults.

Excellent verbal communication and non-verbal/signing skills and the ability to quickly build relationships and rapport are critical in delivering a brilliant matchday experience for our hearing impaired fans.
