About the role
We’re looking for a talented Financial Accountant to join our Finance – Planning & Reporting team. Reporting to the Head of Financial Planning & Group Reporting, you’ll lead on all technical accounting matters, ensuring the Group is prepared for upcoming changes to accounting standards, and that stakeholder reporting is accurate and timely. You’ll be a sounding board for technical accounting queries and will advise on major projects, supporting the Club’s financial sustainability reporting results. You’ll also work to maximise the use of technology to generate efficiencies within the team
Your impact
You will:
Lead the preparation of interim and annual financial statements under UK GAAP, including UEFA Annex G reporting.
Be the technical accounting expert for the Group, advising on accounting implications for projects and proposals.
Produce quarterly, mid-year, and annual reporting packages under IFRS, documenting differences against UK GAAP accounts.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS, Premier League, and UEFA financial sustainability rules, reporting on changes and implementing process improvements.
Manage the production of Group consolidated accounts and maintain group consolidation workings.
Lead on audit procedures and document compliance through a group accounting manual.
Assist in preparing Audit Committee and board meeting presentations.
Work collaboratively to ensure the Workday accounting system meets stakeholder requirements and drive efficiencies in reporting.
Complete ONS submissions and produce recurring/ad hoc reporting as required.
Support budgeting and forecasting on an ad hoc basis.
What we’re looking for
Fully qualified ACA / ACCA / CIMA.
Post-qualified experience in technical accounting.
Strong understanding of UK GAAP (FRS 102) and IFRS.
Experience in accounting for and reporting under multiple consolidations within a group.
Ability to present to senior leadership, including both Finance and non-Finance stakeholders.
Working knowledge of corporation tax, VAT, and employment tax/benefits, with an appetite to continue developing in these areas.
About the team
You’ll work within the Finance – Planning & Reporting team, collaborating closely with colleagues across the Group to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful financial information.
Location
This role is based in Newcastle upon Tyne, with an expectation of working 3 days per week from the office. Please note, if you are not located in the Northeast and unable to relocate, we regret that we will not be able to progress your application.
